Note: the chart above is not perfect but it is a starting point. The only vowel sounds our language has are “a”and “i”. Ostensibly you can replace all of the vowels above (other than “i”) with “a”. All the other letters and vowels spoken in English today were created in recent history–for example the letter “j”circa 1600s.
